How I touched the waves of Arugam Bay Beach, By M.J.S Amra

"Then we curious to get chill at Arugam Bay beach. The waves were awesome. We had a fresh breath, and there were lots of people enjoying surf and waves. My Daddy and uncle started their surfing near the elephant point. Huge waves...."

Hi everyone, I know you all are little familiar with my friend Rassan's articles. And here for a new change, as a writer, I am going to share one of my own experience and awesome events which I had enjoyed in Arugam Bay. Hope this would fresh your minds.

I eagerly waited for this wonderful moment. This was a great opportunity to have a marvellous experience in Arugam Bay. We were in a hurry and curious to travel Arugam Bay.
It was Friday evening after having our lunch, our family and Ameen uncle's family started our journey from Colombo to Arugam Bay. Nearly at 1.30 am we reached "The Hideaway hotel" in Arugam Bay. We planned to stay there for a few days, it was a perfect restaurant and it was beautiful. Everyone warmed, relaxed and chilled in there. They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.

We had our dinner there and went to our room, we felt really tired so we had a great and comfortable sleep.

Arugam Bay

On the next day & the first day, we started our journey to Arugam Bay beach area. It was just a few minutes ride.
Arugam Bay beach is one of the best surfing points in Sri Lanka. From April to October, many surfers make this their home.

This is called surface paradise and one of the attractive beaches in Sri Lanka.

Arugambay is located in a small town of Pottuvil in Ampara district which belongs to the south-east coast of Sri Lanka. There are many things to do and see in Arugambay. Arugam Bay is surrounded with great specious of wild lives too, such as monkeys, elephants, and crocodiles.

Our uncle had experienced before from visiting here so he provided a great guide to us. This was the best season to have great fun in Arugam Bay.
"Yes, it was July"

Until June-August is the best season to have a surf in Arugam Bay beach.
It was 10.00am the weather was still great and we felt quite thirst so we had "king coconut" at that time.

Elephant rock

On the other hand, we went climbing up the Elephant rock at first.

My small sisters Areeba, Murshida, and Ruquiya held my Daddy’s hands since it was their first experience on a hill.

It was really a mini hiking experience for us. We had great stories there, it is located at the end of this bay. You know Finally, I was at the top of this bay.
”Wow, what a spectacular view”

the whole area can be viewed here. Marvellous and eye-catching natural sceneries were there.

Arugam Bay beach and surfing points

Then we curious to get chill at Arugam Bay beach. We were delighted and eagerly ran through the seaside.

The waves were awesome. We had a fresh breath, and there were lots of people enjoying surf and waves.

You know there are famous surf points here in Arugam Bay beach like Baby point, peanut farm surf point, main point, and elephant point.
Anyway, my Daddy and uncle started their surfing at near the elephant point. Huge waves can be seen while surfing.

While they were surfing, I enjoyed building castles there with my sisters. By the time we went through a number of snapshots and photographs because everything was attractive and eye-catching.

Foods and restaurants

It was nearly at about 1.30pm. We returned to our restaurant and had a great lunch there. I can't forget the taste of the “spicy fish curry” smelly nice and mouthwatering.

Arugam Bay is full of small trendy places where foodies can get. They offer everything from Sri Lankan dishes.

There are fresh seafood and vegan foods as well. Many restaurants and hotels are there such as Aqua Blue, Coze bay, Jetwing surf, Royal beach and etc.

In the evening we did enjoy with the snapshots & photographs which we took all day.

Lagoon safari

Moreover, we suggested visiting “Lagoon Safari” the next day. We recommended “Azi Taxi” to be our transport to Safari ride.

We eagerly started our next day with a warm morning. The pleasant and calm environment was there. We arranged our things and had our breakfast with the hope of going our Safari.

It was nearly 09.10 am. we started our journey to the safari by “ Azi Taxi” we had Hot Corn while travelling. In there the beautiful lagoons, Kottukal holds many wild lives as peacocks, elephants, crocodiles and etc.
Lots of foreigners were there to enjoy the beauty of this place.

Kudumbigal monastery

Then we shifted to “Kudumbigal Monastery”. This is located in the middle of the jungle.
“Wow! Sounds great” we had a jungle experience too.

We had about 45 minutes from Arugam Bay to get the foot of the rock. Oops! It wasn’t easy to climb. Although it was difficult, we climbed & wondered on the hill, I can’t describe the view from there.

We can see the view over the whole region.

Deal with fishermen

Meanwhile, it was 04.30 pm. unexpectedly we had a great deal with fishermen. That was a fortunate opportunity for us. There were more fishermen at the main beach.
My daddy got interacted with a fisherman, who was in the beach. He described his experience about fishing in Arugam Bay beach. Later, We wanted to have a ride on his boat.

I wanted to sit in the corner of the boat to touch the waves of the Arugam Bay beach. I was waiting for this moment.

I felt like I was lucky enough to touch the waves of Arugam Bay beach.
You know, we were able to go to our hotel “Hideaway restaurant” through the boat.

Unfortunately, we wanted to wind up the trip of Arugam Bay. We needed to return back to Colombo. However, I can’t forget the wonderful moments which I had in Arugam Bay.
We were there only for a few days but for me, it was like months!
It is one of those areas in the world you have to visit at least once in your lifetime.
